Lukas Alexander Mischker, Two key contenders for facilitating connectivity between nodes in a power grid are Broadband Powerline and LoRa. In this paper, we assess the suitability of these network protocols for use in a swarm grid. Their physical capabilities are compared, and a prototype was developed to evaluate their performance in a meshed network. This comparison provides insights into their applicability in the conceptual setup of a swarm grid and supports further network development. The findings indicate that while both protocols are viable for swarm grid use, their effectiveness is limited by the number of measurement points they can support and the range they offer in real-world test environments.
